"I picked you out, I shook you up, and turned you around"
"...turned you into someone new." I have been bombarded with 80s music, video games, and scratch and sniff nostalgia during my week at Sundance. On the way back from the screening of "Chasing Ghosts: Beyond the Arcade" I looked down and noticed a technological artifact from the late 20th century. A 5 1/4" floppy disk was wedged in between the bus seat and the outer wall of the public transit. How long had this disk been there? What data ,if any, did the grandfather of data storage contain? I wanted to pick up the ancient 1.2 MB disk, but decided to leave it for the other tech elders to find. I wonder how many techies would looked down with the same surprise and amazement as I did. I felt old as I thought how much technology had changed since I last used a 5 1/4" floppy. I spent countless hours in front of that Laser Pal 286 waiting patiently for my 2400 baud modem to download nudity pics from a local bulletin board. People often ask me what got me interested in computers. My stock answer is: video games. The real answer - tits. That's right. I have made a successful career in technology due to a hormonally driven pre-teen desire to download pre-Internet porn. After all, it was easier to hide files on my computer than magazines under my bed. Everything I know about computers has a foundation in learning how to use a computer to download porn. It amazing how something as simple as a arcane piece of technology can remind me of my childhood, make me ponder my career, and ultimately think about tits. I love technology.
