In Boston

Boston is one of my favorite cities in the North East. I love Boston, but not in the Winter. It was in the lower 20s here today. It felt much colder to me. I need a break from Winter. I was online earlier tonight pondering whether or not to trade in some of my Skymiles for a warm weather retreat. Turk and Caicos sounds like a nice place to wash away these winter blues. Actually, it sounds like some spin-off of Scrubs where Donald Faison's character teams up with a Mexican surgeon. Hmmm....that could be funny. I will be posting more about Sundance when time permits along with info about Boston.

Inspired

I came back from Sundance refreshed and inspired to finish the screenplays that I have been working on for over a year. Being around so much originality and creativity is very inspiring. I may actually get off my ass this time and do something. Since returing, I have been reading the screenplays from some of my favorite movies. To me the quote below is one of the best opening monologues from any movie.

"What came first, the music or the misery? People worry about kids playing with guns, or watching violent videos, that some sort of culture of violence will take them over. Nobody worries about kids listening to thousands, literally thousands of songs about heartbreak, rejection, pain, misery and loss. Did I listen to pop music because I was miserable? Or was I miserable because I listened to pop music?" - from the movie High Fidelity

Back from the 'Dance

I will be uploading pics and postings later in the week. I am still trying to catch up on my sleep and warm up.

"I picked you out, I shook you up, and turned you around"

"...turned you into someone new." I have been bombarded with 80s music, video games, and scratch and sniff nostalgia during my week at Sundance. On the way back from the screening of "Chasing Ghosts: Beyond the Arcade" I looked down and noticed a technological artifact from the late 20th century. A 5 1/4" floppy disk was wedged in between the bus seat and the outer wall of the public transit. How long had this disk been there? What data ,if any, did the grandfather of data storage contain? I wanted to pick up the ancient 1.2 MB disk, but decided to leave it for the other tech elders to find. I wonder how many techies would looked down with the same surprise and amazement as I did. I felt old as I thought how much technology had changed since I last used a 5 1/4" floppy. I spent countless hours in front of that Laser Pal 286 waiting patiently for my 2400 baud modem to download nudity pics from a local bulletin board. People often ask me what got me interested in computers. My stock answer is: video games. The real answer - tits. That's right. I have made a successful career in technology due to a hormonally driven pre-teen desire to download pre-Internet porn. After all, it was easier to hide files on my computer than magazines under my bed. Everything I know about computers has a foundation in learning how to use a computer to download porn. It amazing how something as simple as a arcane piece of technology can remind me of my childhood, make me ponder my career, and ultimately think about tits. I love technology.

Star Watch

If you stand on Main Street you won't have to wait long until you see your first star. Within a few minutes, actor and activist Ed Begley Jr passed in front of my lens. A few moments later, I bent over to tie my shoe and was knocked over by the beautiful Parker Posey. She surprsingly let out a nervous and embarrased laugh. As she helped me to my feet we continued to laugh at the absurdity of the situation. She felt really bad for knocking me onto the cold, wet concrete and invited me to a nearby cafe for a coffee. I ignored my ringing cell phone as we warmed ourselves with the caffeinated brew and unspoken sexual tension. Our conversation progressed over the coffee as if we had know each other since childhood; sharing embarrassing and occasionally humorous recollections. She abruptly stopped talking and peered deeply into my eyes. She slowly slide her hand across the table and gently wrapped her fingers around mine and asked what plans I had for dinner. That story would have been great if it were true, but of course the only excitement I got from Parker is when she walked by me. Sadly, I didn't get her picture nor did I have what could have been the best day of my life.

Snakes on a Bus

There is no shortage of interesting people here at the festival. This is one of the more interesting people I have met while riding the bus. It might be 20 degrees outside, but that hasn't stopped this guy from taking his pet boa constrictor for a walk.

Hell yeah it's cold

Right now the current temperature is 3F. That may be cold enough to have my testicles retract into my body, but it hasn't stopped the throng of star watchers from packing the streets in hopes of catching site of their favorite star.

Which way do I go?

I came to point where I must decide which way to go, but there was a fork in the road.

Flash Back - Park City, Utah '06

I was looking through last year's photos from the Sundance Film Festival. This picture reminded me that I need to find my scarf before I leave.

"And go-cart Mozart was checkin' out the weather chart to see if it was safe to go outside"

I fly out Saturday to Park City, Utah for the Sundance Film Festival. This will be my second year attending. As I packed my suitcase tonight I thought it would be useful to check the Weather Channel. It looks like the low on Saturday will be 13 degrees F, but will feel like -6 degrees F. I think I will wear two pairs of boxers to keep my "special purpose" warm. Losing a finger or toe to frost bite is awful but I do have other fingers and toes.

Resolutions

Within minutes of the new year dawning people being making ludicrous vows for the coming year about how they intend to improve their life by losing weight, giving up cigarettes, and foregoing the weekly "happy ending" by Kim Lu at the Paradise Massage Spa. These resolutions are usually abandoned within weeks. After all, Kim Lu has a family to support.

This year I decided to make a few realistic resolutions for the new year.

1. Update this blog at least weekly
2. Add two more stamps to my passport
3. Avoid the Paradise Massage Spa
4. Learn more about photography

"Making resolutions is a cleansing ritual of self-assessment and repentance that demands personal honesty and, ultimately, reinforces humility. Breaking them is part of the cycle.”- Eric Zorn

Save Delta Airlines

If US Airways hostile takeover of Delta goes through analysts predict higher fares for travelers. Delta's marketing department has begun a type of grass roots campaign to allow travelers to sign a petition saying "No!" to the possible merger. I agree with analyst and think the merger would have a negative impact on both choice and price. For those that wish to sign the petition click on the link below.
